Okita's journal for Queen's Reign.
Biography: Souji, born Okita Sôjirô Fujiwara no Harumasa in 1844 was a prodigy kendo student. By the age of 15, he was head instructor of the Sheikan (his school), and one of the founders, and Captain of the first Division of the Shinsengumi in 1863.
The Shinsengumi were something of a police force charged with keeping the peace in Kyoto during Japan's Bakumatsu (civil war) period, although there were times when the Shinsengumi were not respected or were said to have abused their powers as law officials.
Souji was involved in the Ikedaya affair (a 'police' raid of sorts) of 1864 where his Tuberculosis manifested in a fight with one of the Choshu rebel leaders. He won, but collapsed and was retired from active duty a short time later.
Souji under orders of the doctor Matsumoto Ryoujun came to Queen's Reign, as the doctor knew that the more advanced medicine of the western world could prolonge his life.
